Hóuzi Raft Challenge

Hóuzi needs to get across the lake to the banana trees on the other side of the jungle.
We've all made rafts, will they hold Hóuzi up?
Some of our rafts worked for Hóuzi

Some of our rafts needed a helping hand to keep Hóuzi dry, especially when we upped the challenge and added heavy marbles.
What alterations could we make to our designs that would keep both Hóuzi and the marbles dry?

Buoyancy

In science this week we had a tricky problem to solve; Hóuzi (the monkey) needs to get across the lake to the banana trees on the other side of the jungle.

We used our knowledge of floating and sinking to build Hóuzi a raft/boat that will carry him across the pool.

Two enthusiastic learners went home and created amazing rafts for Hóuzi, check out their clever creations.

On Monday during our swimming lesson we will have the opportunity to test out our rafts and see if they can transport Hóuzi

Floating and Sinking

On Friday we looked at what Floats and what sinks. First we had to predict what we thought, then we tested our predictions. Look and see which ones floated and sunk in these photos.
Maybe you can have some fun with this at home.
Which materials float and which ones sink?
Why do you think that?

Fitness Fun

Look at our confidence soar as we show what we can do on the playground.  Today we focused on climbing and swinging.

We also mastered a stretchy balance, go Danni!

Well done to Grace, Amanaki and Campbell for making it up and over the very tall climbing wall.
